2009-02-14 00:00:00 - UKCT Suspends CTRA

CompuTeam Race Authority (CTRA)UKCT, the group behind the world's largest sim racing licence authority and LFS's most successful server suite, has voted to suspend CompuTeam Race Authority (CTRA) public LFS server operations.

It was agreed that the CTRA servers, which were launched in the summer of 2007 and counted a userbase of over 31,000 racers, had met and exceeded expectations, but because of time and commitment limitations had eventually become untenable.

The CTRA set out to be very much more than just the code behind it. It set out to change mindsets in sim racing, to place honourable behaviour higher in importance than winning - "a win without honour is no win at all" - to introduce the notion that a server admin shares responsibility for the behaviour of the racers in his servers, and that server admins have a responsibility to be fair to their racers and transparent in their operation.

We believe that the CTRA servers met those challenges head-on and at all times succeeded in the mission, and that this was achieved entirely due to the contributions made by voluntary CTRA admins and the willingness and enthusiasm of the sim racing community to embrace the CTRA philosophy.

Regarding the future of the CTRA, nothing permanent has been decided. UKCT, the originator of the CTRA, will consider all options and make appropriate decisions in the coming weeks and months. The CTRA name and intellectual property is wholly owned by UKCT, and UKCT retains all rights and privileges regarding the CTRA name and its usage in the context of sim racing.

At this time, we at UKCT would like to thank everyone who has participated in the CTRA and wish everyone who has been touched by the CTRA philosophy to remember the value of CTRA's ethics, and to carry them forward in all aspects of their future sim racing careers.
