UKCT & Server Charter

1) Server Charter Members (alphabetical):

  • Steve (D) [Steve Bentley]
  • John (Hamster) [John Brennand]
  • Sam (Z) [Sam Hopkinson]
  • Eddy (McWardo) [Edward Millen]
  • Kev (Dyz) [Kevin Parr]
  • Chris (Pudding) [Chris Puddy]
  • Chris [Chris Raemisch]
  • Chris (Toffy) [Chris Shallcross]
  • Dave (CD) [David Thornton-Cousins]
  • Ade (Dwaine) [Adrian Vaughan]

2) Server Membership Requirements:

  1. Financial Contribution
    1. Server Charter Members (SCMs) pay fees on a monthly basis. The fee is based on the actual cost of the server (whether leased or purchased) including running costs (internet connectivity), exceeded bandwidth limit charges (if incurred), purchased software for the running of the server (if relevent) and replacement or upgraded hardware (if needed/desired). A float will be maintained whenever possible.
    2. Registered server users can also contribute monthly, and will receive server benefits (detailed in section 4).

  2. Suspension of Contributions
    1. It may be possible to suspend contributions without losing SM status, but only by prior arrangement, personally, with the Server Financial Controller (SFC; at this time, David Cousins) for a limited time. It is not possible to defer payment beyond a date (determined by the SFC), but will instead be recorded as a "skipped month" when a new Fee Invoice is issued. This is usually the 1st or 2nd of the new month.

3) Server Membership Benefits:

  1. SMs enjoy the following benefits:
    • An unrestricted FTP account, where downloads from the server are not limited by bandwidth.
    • The ability to request server content:
      • FTP data:
        • Games
        • Movies
        • Applications
      • Game Servers
      • Server functionality (server-based lookup scripts, web server features etc)
    • Teamspeak Channel Admin status

4) UKCT••Server Philosophy:

  1. The UKCT••Server operates with a "we pay, you play" philosophy where many of the activities that are possible on the server are free for EVERYONE and not just those who pay for the server. There are limits, however, and certain advantages to being a SM will always exist. Some examples of the differences are as follows:

5) Behaviour of SMs

SMs are expected to abide by basic principles, upon which the UKCT••Server is founded. These include but are not limited to the rules and guidelines defined below:

1) UKCT••Radio Broadcasts (Guidelines)
  1. Broadcasting Material
    1. It is the responsibility of the broadcaster to ensure that the material broadcast at any given time of the day is appropriate for listeners at that time of the day. Conventional water-shed hours should be observed, and songs played before 9:30pm should be appropriate for all ages. Responsible broadcasting is requested at all times.
  2. Advertising
    1. The UKCT••Radio Stations are specifically for members of UKCT and should not be advertised outside UKCT. This includes:
      1. Groups of friends away from UKCT
      2. Using the Yellow Pages function of the Winamp ShoutCAST DSP plug-in.
    2. Please don't post AOL-clickable hyperlinks. The webpage doesn't work in AOL's browser.
    3. Please don't advertise the access password (UKCT••Radio). You can provide it when asked for it in the room, but exclude it from your station advertising.
    4. You should not advertise the current song in UKCT more than once every 10 minutes or so.
    5. You should use a short macro that uses just one line of chat, wherever possible.
    6. If a host is present and asks you not to advertise the UKCT••Radio station, you should stop advertising immediately.

  3. Complementary Broadcasting
    1. You should ensure that the station you intend to broadcast on is free and available. You should not attempt to broadcast on a Station that already has music playing.
    2. Your choice of music should not conflict with the music of other stations playing concurrently. That is to say that if a station is already playing 80s tunes, you should wait until that station has finished playing before beginning your broadcast of 80s tunes, etc.
  4. Broadcasting Privileges
    1. Broadcasting on UKCT••Radio is by invitation/request only. You should not provide the broadcast password or other broadcasting details to others.
    2. Financial contributors always take priority in broadcasting on UKCT••Radio. If you are not a financial contributor to the server, you must stop broadcasting if a financial contributor wishes to broadcast on the station you are broadcasting on.
    3. If UKCT••Radio broadcasts are found to diminish the performance of the Game Servers during peak gaming hours, you may be asked to postpone your broadcast until after the game players have finished. Please remember that the primary function of the server is as a Gaming Server.
    4. Broadcasting privileges may be revoked if broadcasters are found to be abusing the system, or disregarding the guidelines set out here. The intention with UKCT••Radio is to enhance the UKCT experience. Any behaviour that conflicts with this intent will result in the removal of broadcasting privileges.
2) UKCT••TeamSpeak Usage:
  1. The UKCT••Teamspeak server was originally created to parallel the AOL Chatroom Computing Chat UK. Users of UKCT••Teamspeak are bound by the following principles:
    1. Server Status is hierarchical and must be respected:
      1. SA status is for SCMs only
      2. CA Status may only be granted by SCMs, to non-paying members
    2. UKCT••Teamspeak registration and use is conditional and must meet both the following criteria:
      1. The registrant is invited by at least one other frequent TeamSpeak Registrant
      2. The registrant is not a known trouble-causer
    3. Conversations in UKCT••Teamspeak are for UKCT••Teamspeak, and ONLY for UKCT••Teamspeak. UKCT••Teamspeak Members who are found to relay conversations or use information learned in UKCT••Teamspeak, outside UKCT••Teamspeak, and that in any way negatively impacts another UKCT••Teamspeak Registrant, automatically forfeit their right to use the UKCT••Teamspeak features of the server. Final say falls to SCMs.
    4. Behaviour in UKCT••Teamspeak should mimick real life. UKCT••Teamspeak can be regarded as a collection of friends like-minded people. Harassment, abuse or malicious behaviour is not tolerated. Conflicts, if they occur, must be resolved privately, away from the server, or in one of the server's two PRs.
    5. Excessive "kicking" of other members is discouraged. SCMs and SMs should not use their ability to kick in a way that might be regarded as harassment or even bullying. For example, SMs should not kick Registrants who cannot respond in a likewise fashion, unless for genuine and serious breaches of these server policies.
    6. The General Chat room/channel is specifically intended for general chat. If you are playing a multiplayer game with other UKCT••Teamspeak users you may continue to use the General Chat room. However, if your game-playing becomes noisy and interferes with a conversation that is not related to the game you are playing, you should request to be moved to the relevent UKCT••Teamspeak game channel. If you are disrupting the general chat, and do not request to be moved, you should expect to be moved by someone else, either with or without your permission. The rules of common courtesy extend to Registrants, SMs and SCMs alike.
    7. Any UKCT••Teamspeak member may be moved to an empty channel if they are AFK and their voice activation causes feedback, or if they have fallen asleep and are snoring.
    8. Language that is commonly regarded as rude or foul is permitted on UKCT••Teamspeak. SMs and Registrants enjoy a freedom of full expression, in both verbal and nickname forms. Limitations exist only in line with common courtesy. The following is intended to summarise expectations:-
      1. Rude language in the presence of other SMs or Registrants is permitted.
      2. Abusive/aggressive language directed at another SM or Registrant with the clear intention to upset or abuse that member is not permitted.
      3. Newcomers should be aware that this premise is established and accepted.
      4. SMs, Registrants and newcomers may not impose on other SMs or Registrants any expectations of language limitation that vary from the established traditions and policy of UKCT••Teamspeak.
      5. SMs, Registrants and newcomers should always exercise respect for present company and abide by universal rules of common courtesy (essentially freedom of speech tempered by freedom from abuse)
3) FTP Server Usage:
    1. SMs have unlimited access to the content of the UKCT FTP server and may download and upload to the maximum bandwidth limits their own ISP connection will allow.
      1. SMs must not, by either action or omission, allow access to their FTP Username or Password to be obtained by any other person who is not an SM.
      2. Sharing with other SMs is discouraged, but in the event of access problems may be needed. In such circumstances SMs are encouraged to approach an SCM for resolution.
      3. SMs bear sole responsibility for any content uploaded to the server on their username/password.
4) Game Servers:

1) Usage:

  1. The Game Servers are not limited to SMs and exist visibly to the public. SMs may also invite friends to join any of the game servers. Some of the game servers have access passwords. These may also be provided to friends. Occasionally unwelcome players access UKCT game servers. These may be either players who have visited and caused disruption on the game server before, or who are known to other SMs or SCMs and who are officially banned from the UKCT••Server. If you find one on a UKCT game server, it is important that you contact one of the SCMs or game administrators as soon as possible and advise them.

2) Administration:

  1. Administration passwords must be guarded and must not be provided to non-SMs under any circumstances, except where expressly permitted by an SCM. SMs are permitted to administrate on game servers, but are required to uphold the principles of UKCT. Before assuming administrative duties on a UKCT game server, an SM must undergo a measure of "training" to establish an understanding of the principles of administration on UKCT••Servers. Administrators who demonstrate poor judgement, undermining the good standing of UKCT game servers in the gaming community, will have their administrator status revoked. SCMs have final say. Approach an SCM if you are interested in assuming administrative duties for one or more of the UKCT game server

6) Charter Basis and Future Revisions

The charter is designed as a set of founding principles, outlining in general the spirit in which the UKCT••Server was launched. The rules here are intended as a guiding structure. Future additions to the functionality of the server may require that this document be updated and modified. In such a case, it will fall to the SCMs to make those changes. The SCMs, whose original thoughts and ideas gave rise to the UKCT••Server and the charter which governs it, will always ensure that future additions and modifications will continue in the same spirit as set out here.

Any SMs with questions or the need for clarification regarding any of the content laid out here, are welcome to approach any of the SCMs.
