Since May, UKCT and CTRA have been working with V1 Championship to help form the process behind the V1 Championship's driver selection. V1 Championship is committed to finding new motorsports talent, wherever it may be, guiding them into the sport and into their first professional drive. At the beginning of the V1 process, candidates demonstrate their talents in the PC-based Live For Speed online racing simulator.
Using hardware managed by UKCT and custom server management software written by the CTRA developers, our group collects driver performance statistics over short 6-lap practice races. Each lap driven by a candidate is recorded, along with detailed information about that lap; the input controller that the driver is using, the sector and lap times achieved, the number of accidents experienced, the drivers' progression through the field and many other facts and factors.
As well as the ongoing statistics gathering and analysis, CTRA hosts weekend races for all those trying out for V1, providing a fastrak to the next phase in driver selection - psychometric analysis. The weekend races follow the Formula 1 Grands Prix, allowing V1 competitors time for practice and testing during the week. On the Friday before a Formula 1 race weekend, V1 hosts Open Qualifying where drivers are invited to demonstrate their talent and win an invite to the weekend's Q1, Q2 and Race sessions.
UKCT are both proud and excited to be part of the V1 Championship, and wish the competitors the best of luck!
